This Zebra Popcorn is a fun and easy chocolate coated popcorn recipe that you can make at home with only 3 ingredients! It’s a copycat recipe of that expensive popcorn you find at the mall – but made at home anytime you want it.
The classic store-bought Zebra Popcorn is caramel corn that is then coated in stripes of regular and white chocolate. That is how is gets its name – because is looks like a zebra! Since I wanted a fast (and easy!) snack, I prepared this recipe a little differently: I used store bought sweet & salty popcorn so you don’t have to make caramel corn from scratch! The crunch of the kettle corn and sweetness of the chocolate – a bowl of homemade popcorn is a great snack or dessert any day of the week, but especially on movie night.
Ingredients Needed
- Popcorn: Use whatever popcorn you like best – if you can find a big bag of Kettle Corn (any brand) that’s best – but caramel corn works too.
- Candy Melts – While many recipes call for a combination of white chocolate chips and dark chocolate chips, I don’t recommend using them because they’ll melt faster in your hands when eating. Look for candy melts in the baking aisle – Ghirardelli is the best. Traditionally this gourmet popcorn uses two types of melted chocolate: white chocolate and semi-sweet or milk chocolate.
How to make Popcornopolis Zebra Popcorn
- I like to cover my baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Spread your popcorn evenly over the cookie sheet.
- Melt both kinds of chocolate according to package directions (I like to do this in the microwave). Drizzle a ribbon of each chocolate over the top of the popcorn.
- Once it sets you can break it up and eat it!
Expert Tips
- Be sure to check the popcorn and remove any unpopped kernels before coating with chocolate.
- I use a sandwich bag to drizzle my chocolate: All you need to do it cut the tip off of a corner of the bag and drizzle!
- Use the kinds of chocolate you like – mix and match your favorites.
- You could even add peanuts or any sort of candy or anything you like along with the popcorn.
Zebra Popcorn Recipe
Ingredients
- 6 ounces already popped popcorn (see note)
- 5 ounces white chocolate candy melts
- 5 ounces semi-sweet chocolate candy melts
Instructions
- Spread Kettle Corn on a large cookie sheet that's been covered with parchment paper.
- Melt both candy coating according to package directions. Place each in a small sandwich bag.
- Cut the tip off the white chocolate and drizzle all over the popcorn. Repeat with semi-sweet chocolate.
- Chill until set, about 20 minutes. Break up pieces and serve. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Recipe Notes
- You can make your own caramel corn for this if you prefer but starting with pre-popped is so much easier. Use your favorite brand and flavor of popcorn – either caramel corn or kettle corn.
- Be sure to store it in an airtight container.

Sigh, my kids just got out of school too. Can’t believe how much they’ve changed. I love to hear how excited they get when they learn new things! I think teachers are the most wonderful people in the world!!!! I’m taking my kids to the drive in and I think this would be great popcorn to sneak in!

I feel your pain. My daughter starts secondary school here in September!! I believe that’s high school over there. I’m so nervous for her, things tend to get messy and hard when kids reach this point in their lives.
My other two daughters will be in 4th and 5th grade. Growing up so fast! :'( My youngest has speech problems so loving the zebra popcorn. I might have to make these for her so I can get her to pronounce her Z’s a million times while she eats, LOL.
