It’s the last Friday before school starts. I’m happy (more than you can imagine), but it’s bittersweet too. It’s been a fun summer. But we’re all so ready for it to be Fall!

Did you do anything fun this week? Our week was super busy.

1. Jordan got her braces. It’s kind of emotional for me, to see her with all that metal, because it’s my genes that gave her that mouth. Way back before we started the process, I thought she would get a palate expander and be done. She wasn’t so lucky. She had to have four baby teeth pulled. She got a palate expander. And we were scheduled for partial braces, just on the top.

When she came out of the exam room on Tuesday she had full braces. The doctor made the decision she needed them.  Because her mouth is that bad.

It’s so bad that, when we first saw the doctor he said “don’t worry, I’ve fixed something this severe before.”

It was either this (and she’ll have them again at 12) or surgery to fix her palate.

So yeah, I feel really guilty. And sad. And hopeful that her self-confidence can weather this metal storm.

{Cheery sidenote: when we left with her new bling she said she thought she was even prettier than before.}

2. I made you some treats this week too. What else would I do?

I freaked you all out with green dessert again.

I made my new favorite lunch.

And remade an old favorite.

3. I’m giving away a doughnut pan that makes ginormous doughnuts. Want it?

4. I haven’t done Flashback Friday in awhile…oops.

This weeks installment: last years’ teacher treat: Apple Oreos.

5. A few things I did this week:

I went rock climbing again. Jordan came too and took pictures. Oh-so-flattering!

The child is part monkey.

I took one for the team and spent a day here. More on that next week.

6. It’s the last weekend of summer vacation so we’re doing a stay-cation. I’m hoping that means I don’t have to cook.

What are you doing this weekend? Have your kids started school yet?

Have a good one, peeps. See ya’ on the flip side.

Kisses!
Dorothy

  1. Hooray for school:-) Jordan is such a cutie and I can see her fun and vibrant personality in all the pics you post!!! She will be a leader in school!!! And huge kudos to you guys rock climbing again. We’ve done it and it’s tiring!!! Love the cute monkey shots!!!

  2. Wow!! Jordan is only a year older than my daughter and she has braces! I’m just glad that she likes them. Is she going to get the rainbow rubber bands?
We hit the road this morning and drove 400 miles to visit my college roommate. We’ll drive back on Monday 🙁 We still have over 2 weeks to go until school starts! I’m not sure what we’ll do. I feel like I need to push for some last minute family stuff. Go to the aquarium, zoo, or water park since all the other kids will be in school. We’ll have the entire joint to ourselves 🙂

  3. My daughter got a palate expander a few weeks ago! Once her palate is normal (?) then we get braces. All an 18 month process! I don’t know who she gets it from I never had braces and neither I’d my husband! Oh wait she sucked her thumb for 7 years, duh! Luckily our orthodontist is my daughter bff’s dad. He is going easy on us…
I am totally making those oatmeal rolo cookies! Yum, how did I miss that post?
We started school on Tuesday so we did nothing fun this week!

    1. Yeah, ours said a year but I kinda added on 6-12 extra months in my head. 🙂 And thanks!

  4. Hi Dorothy! My son had to get pre-orthodonture as well and he’s 17 now and has a great smile! 🙂 He barely remembers those evil braces. They will get fixed, she will get used to them and it is fairly miserable when they get tightened, but with a mom like you who will fix her some fun and yummy soft things to eat, she’ll get through it better than most. We just started school this week. Yuck! 🙁 A staycation sounds like fun. I am so glad to hear someone else who LOVES cooking also looks forward to the “no cooking” breaks. I am always wrangling for a dinner out yet I love to cook and wonder what’s that about! Take care!

    1. Thanks Geni! I know (and she does too) that it’ll be worth it. Still sucks in the middle! Have a great weekend!

  5. What a cutie – metal and all:) Stella is actually excited about getting hers! I commend you for surviving sunsplash – for that alone you deserve a cook-free weekend. Happpy back to school – we start on Thursday!
