Say that title 5 times fast! I just couldn’t decide what to leave out. Peanut butter? Caramel? Hot fudge? Slow Cooker? Crock Pot?
Whatever, this Slow Cooker Caramel Peanut Butter Hot Fudge Cake has the longest title in history, but it’s one of my new favorite desserts!
See that? That oozy caramel? It’s a Rolo.
{I know, right? I put a Rolo inside a peanut butter cake? I’m a genius.}
Now that we’re really into fall, I love using my slow cooker for dinner. (Well, at least I will be, once it stops being freaking 90 degrees. here. I mean come on Mother Nature. Give us a break please!)
I love making soups and roasts and chicken in my crockpot, but my new favorite thing to make is dessert. Obviously!
A few weeks ago I made a Slow Cooker Apple Dump Cake that rocked my world. And once I made that I started getting so many other ideas. Chocolate cake, chocolate lava cake, pie…and so many more. This is my first installment in my #crockpotallthethings winter dessert series: a Caramel Peanut Butter Hot Fudge Cake.

This recipe could not be easier. I actually whipped it up one morning before school and when I got home from the gym my morning snack was ready. {Kidding. Um, sort of?}
You make this with a bowl and a spoon, no mixer needed. The peanut butter batter comes together fast with some easy stirring and it gets spread in the bottom of your slow cooker. Then you press some Rolos in the top, because Rolos are good.
Then comes the hot fudge part: cocoa and sugar are mixed with boiling water and poured slowly over the cake. While it cooks the chocolate sauce becomes thick, like hot fudge.
My cake took just about 2 hours to cook on high power. Remember though – all slow cookers are different. Mine has settings for low power (12 or 10 hours) and high power (4 or 6 hours). I put mine on high for 6 hours and after 2 it was done. If you’ve never made a cake in the crockpot before, be sure and start checking it after about an hour. It might be done in an hour and a half, or it could take up to 3 hours.
Once it’s done you let it cool a little bit, then scoop big bowls with ice cream. Because you can’t have hot fudge cake without ice cream!
Seriously, where has crockpot cake been all my life??
What do you love to make in your slow cooker?
Crockpot Cake Recipe
Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 1 cup (124g) all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons (27g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- ⅓ cup (79ml) vegetable oil
- 1 cup (237ml) milk
For the Sauce:
- 1 cup (237ml) boiling water
- ¼ cup (20g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- Pinch salt
Instructions
- Make the Cake: Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder in a large bowl. Add oil, vanilla, and milk and whisk until smooth.
- Spray the insert of a 7-Qt slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Pour cake batter into insert.
- Make the topping: add the cocoa, salt, and sugar to the boiling water and whisk to combine. Slowly pour over the cake batter in the crockpot insert.
- Cover the insert with paper towels, place in crockpot and place lid on top of paper towels.
- Set time for HIGH for 2 hours. Check cake after 1 hour and then again at 1.5 hours. Cake will look wet in center but the edges will look done and a toothpick will come out clean near the edge when done. All slow cookers cook differently, mine took 1.5 hours.
- Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

I like it is so good
Crockpots for dessert recipes look great. Iโd love to try the chocolate Rollo cake but I donโt have a crockpot. Could I bake it in microwave or is an alternative the oven? Thank you!
You can bake it in the oven but I haven’t tried that, so I’m not sure how long it will take.
Made this many times and will make it many more to come. Peanut butter, caramel and chocolate and it goes perfect with vanilla ice cream!! I randomly have cravings for this dessert and it always satisfies <3 <3 Thank you for sharing!!!
Has anyone tried to double this? I believe that question went unanswered. We will have 12 people and am wondering if doubling will work in a large 7 quart crockpot or if I should have someone bring an extra crockpot. Thanks and Happy Holidays!
What would happen if I didn’t use Rolos and just poured a caramel dessert topping over the batter? Would I still need the “chocolate water” ??
You can substitute caramel sauce, yes. You’d still need all the other ingredients.
