I think I made the best combination ever, like, for reals.

Chocolate Chip Cookies and Oreo Truffles are about to get married and have a baby! Are you ready for the party?

Yes. I went there. I took an Oreo Truffle and married it to a chocolate chip cookie bar. I know, right?

I’m alllllll about marrying two desserts together. I mean, a dessert mash-up is better than a regular dessert. {Ahem, I *may* have just written a bunch of recipes all about this same topic… wink, wink.}

First comes love (because how could it not be love at first sight?)

Then comes marriage (a family of Oreo Truffles on one side, a bunch of chocolate chip cookies and that weird uncle missing a chip on the other)

Then comes the baby in the baby carriage….

An Oreo Truffle Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar!

Even though I love truffles, rolling them out is annoying. Making a slab ‘o truffle is much easier and more fun. A few years ago I made Oreo Truffle Brownies, followed soon after by Nutter Butter Truffle Brownies. After I made the Peanut Butter Covered Oreo Truffles last week, I had Oreos left over and wanted to do something with them.

The other day after an emergency re-testing of some cookies, I was left with an 8×8 pan of chocolate chip cookie bars. What to do with them? When it hit me: add the Oreo truffles to the cookies.

Genius, seriously, and I’m really not tooting my own horn.

These are amazing.

Once your cookies cool (and hey, you could totally use a store-bought cookie dough!), you make the Oreo truffle mixture. Oreo truffles are Oreos + cream cheese. It makes a soft and malleable mixture. You press it on top of the cookie bars. Then you top it with melted chocolate chips. Easy-peasy.

Notes about the recipe:

  • Make sure the cookies are cool before you add the truffles. You don’t want to rip the top of the cookies and it takes some pressing and smooshing to get the truffles even.
  • Melt your chocolate chips with some shortening if you have it. Otherwise it’ll shred when you cut the bars. If you’ve read me for any length of time you know I’m sort of anti-shortening in most things, but I always have some on hand for when I’m melting chocolate.
  • These need to be chilled so the chocolate can set, but you want to let them come to room temperature before cutting. If you cut them straight from the refrigerator the chocolate will totally break no matter how much Crisco you’ve used.
  • Get them out of your house fast. These pack a whollup of flavor and they’re so addicting you’ll be cursing me when you eat 5. 😉

Now it’s just a matter of what else I can marry Oreo Truffles with. Because I’m not done…

Oreo Truffle Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Ingredients
 

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips divided
  • 30 Oreo cookies
  • 4 ounces cream cheese regular or low-fat
  • 2 teaspoons shortening Crisco

Instructions

  • Line an 8x8” (9x9” for thinner cookies) pan with foil and spray with cooking spray. Or just spray with cooking spray (no foil required).
  • Cream butter and both sugars until combined.
  • Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl. Stir and set aside.
  • Turn mixer on low. Add egg, mixing completely. Mix in vanilla extract. Add flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until combined. Mix in 1 cup chocolate chips. Press into prepared pan. Chill dough for 15 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350°. Bake bars for about 20-28 minutes, until the top is golden. I like my cookies on the under done side, so mine baked for 23 minutes. Let cool completely.
  • Place Oreos and cream cheese in a food processor and run until the mixture forms a ball (30-60 seconds). Place pieces of the Oreo truffle mixture on top of the cooled cookies and press with your hands to flatten into an even layer.
  • Heat 1 cup of chocolate chips with 2 teaspoons of Crisco in a microwave safe bowl on HIGH power in increments of 30 seconds, stirring in between each, until melted and smooth. (The shortening is optional, but it will help your chocolate cut without breaking.) Pour over the top of the Oreo truffle layer and spread evenly. Chill until set, a few hours.
  • To minimize the chocolate cracking when cutting, let the bars come to room temperature before cutting.

  2. Hi, I have a few questions:

    – Do I use the whole Oreo (with the filling)? If not, do I use 15 oreos (30 halves) ou 30 oreos (60 halves)?
    – Can I use a mixer instead of the food processor?

    1. I always use whole Oreos, so 30 full Oreos! To make the truffle mixture without a food processor, I’d crust the Oreos in a large plastic bag using a rolling pin, then use a mixer to mix in the cream cheese. You can see the texture in the pictures – it’s very thick and should hold it’s shape if it was a truffle. Enjoy!

  3. Hi quick question, if I wanted to double the recipe would it work in a 13×9 pan, or would it be too much cookie dough on the bottom?

    1. It would be thicker for sure. You can most likely just double the truffle mixture and use the same cookie recipe. It’ll just be thinner (and watch the baking time) but it’ll still be good. But you’d for sure need more truffle mixture. Or, if you want a really thick cookie, you can double it. You could cut small squares for serving, if you go that route!

  4. any thought on leaving any of your bar recipes with cream cheese in them out of the fridge for any length of time? safe? do they hold up?

    1. I would store these in the fridge just in case, but they taste better room temperature. If you’re putting them out for a party, they’ll be fine. But more than a day and I’d chill them, just because of the CC. ๐Ÿ™‚
