A frozen hot chocolate float is a genius recipe and it’s SO easy. All you need are three ingredients: hot chocolate mix, ice cream, and whipped cream.
Frozen Hot Chocolate Float
I’ve never really been a fan of hot chocolate since coffee was always my go-to comfort drink. However, I recently discovered how to make the most delicious and satisfying hot chocolate float! The kids love these and you can use any flavor ice cream you like.
Ingredients Needed
- Hot chocolate mix: you can use a packet or my homemade hot chocolate mix.
- Ice cream: I used mint chip because we love mint…and that makes this a St. Patrick’s Day dessert, but use your favorite ice cream.
How to make a Hot Chocolate Float
- Make hot chocolate.
- Add ice cream.
- Drink and enjoy the tasitest hot chocolate float recipe!
Expert Tips
- For a creamier hot chocolate, use milk with higher fat content.
- The creamiest alternative milk I find is oat milk.
- To enhance the chocolate flavor, add ½ tsp of pure vanilla extract.
- Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon and or clove to spice up your hot chocolate (even cayenne pepper).

Total Time 10 minutes
Ingredients
- 8 ounces prepared hot chocolate

Instructions
- Use your favorite hot chocolate mix to make a glass (about 8 ounces) of hot chocolate. I use the k-cups for my Keurig but you can also use 8 ounces of water with your favorite hot chocolate packet or 8 ounces of milk and some homemade hot chocolate mix.
- Pour an equal amount of the hot chocolate in two mugs. (The pictures shown are one very large mug, but it serves 2.)
- Place 1/4 cup (1 scoop) of ice cream in each mug. Top with whipped cream and/or sprinkles and/or chocolate sauce.
- Serve immediately.

This float looks amazing. Yeah, I feel the same way about kids outside of the family. They generally just get on my nerves. I’m happy to hear I’m not the only one who feels that way. Pinned!
Thank you for pinning!! And it’s nice to find other people that feel the same way, from the way people act you’d think no one thought that way!
