There are few things I love more in life than sprinkles. Seriously, I’m like a tween girl when it comes to how much I love them. They’re glittery, rainbow, and they remind me of unicorns.

Recently I redid my office. I still have to take photos to share but basically I added an entire wall of shelves full of sprinkles. I have jars of single colors set up in a rainbow and I’ve mixed special color mixes that make me happy to display. Just looking at a jar of sprinkles makes me grin like a dork.

(I may hate cleaning up sprinkles after a photo shoot but if I can look at them daily, I’m a happy girl.)

There’s just something so happy about sprinkles, especially on a vanilla cupcake. I mean – can you even look at these photos and not be happy? They’re just so…cheerful.

Piñata Cupcakes are like sprinkle cupcakes on overload: the cupcakes are full of sprinkles!

They’re like surprise inside cupcakes that make a mess when you bite into them, but it’s so worth it.

The beauty of this cupcake recipe is that it’s more of a method. I might be a vanilla cupcake addict, but maybe you prefer chocolate or red velvet. You can use any cupcake recipe you want – or even use a box mix. You can even buy plain cupcakes from the grocery store and no one will know!

Same when it comes to frosting: you can use any flavor you want. Chocolate, vanilla, maybe cream cheese frosting! Make it from scratch or use a can, it won’t matter.

Making your own sprinkle mix

Making my own sprinkle mixes is something I love doing. In fact, I’m looking at these photos and remembering this mix and realizing I need to go amazon shopping for more pearls.

It’s so easy to make your own color blends. Yes, it can get expensive, but you don’t have to buy the huge bags on amazon like I do. Simply head to the craft store and just buy a few different colors you like. Mix them together and you have a fun colorful way to celebrate a holiday or birthday or even graduation with school colors.

How to make cupcakes with sprinkles inside

It’s easier than you think, but check out my video below to see what I do.

Basically you cut out a small piece of the center of the cupcake. Fill with sprinkles and replace the cut out piece, then frost. Easy peasy!

As always, I used a 1M tip for these cupcakes. The rosette or swirl tip, as I call it, is my favorite one and produces gorgeous cupcakes, every time.
