Ingredients Needed

  • Cream Cheese: Make sure it’s room temperature to avoid lumps. Do not use low-fat or fat-free cream cheese.
  • Ricotta Cheese: Make sure it’s room temperature and only use whole milk ricotta cheese.
  • Powdered Sugar: To sweeten the dip
  • Vanilla Extract: You can also substitute or add almond extract, or even some orange zest.
  • Mini Chocolate Chips: Mimics the coating on the outside of a cannoli
  • Dippers: Like Walkers Shortbread Cookies or other dippers – if you can find waffle cone pieces, those are super similar to cannoli shells.

How to Make Homemade Cannoli Dip

  • Beat cream cheese until smooth using a hand mixer. Mix in ricotta cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Stir in chocolate chips. The mixture will be a bit lumpy from the ricotta cheese.
  • Serve in a bowl with cookies for dipping.
  • Optional: make shortbread cookie sandwiches by filling two cookies with the cream.

Expert Tip

  • The best things to dip in this recipe would be: Walkers Shortbread Cookies, Nilla Wafers, graham crackers, chocolate chip cookies, or any other cracker or cookie! Even strawberries or apples would taste good!
  • Make a cookie sandwich with leftover dip! Take two cookies and sandwich some of this dip in the middle–it is so good!
  • Do not use low fat ricotta or low fat cream cheese – these are thinner and will cause the dip to be too wet.
  • Decorate the top with some chopped pistachios for an even more authentic look.

FAQs

How long will cannoli dip last?

Store this in the refrigerator in an airtight container and it will last about 3 days.

Should I strain the ricotta cheese for cannoli?

You don’t have to for the dip but if you want it to last longer or be thicker, then strain it. Place 3 layers of paper towels or a cheesecloth in a strainer and add the ricotta, let it sit for a few hours until the water drains out.

  1. The nutritional information seems off. Are the amounts really based on one cup of dip? 1229 calories and 71g fat seems too much.ย

  2. I followed the recipe for Canoli dip exactly and it was extremely loose… ย so much so the mini chocolate chips were sinking :(… ย How do you thicken it up?
