Learn how to make the cutest Bunny Cookies with the best sugar cookie recipe and frosting. You can customize these sweet cookies with your frosting and sugar colors for an adorable treat – they’re perfect for Easter and they’re SO EASY!
Cutest Bunny Cookies Ever
Sometimes you want an easy but cute cookie for Easter and these are them. I’m showing you how to make bunny sugar cookies with my favorite sugar cookie recipe. For these Easter treats, I use a cute bunny-shaped cookie cutter to make them – at our house, they’re called bunny butts or bunny booty and they’re seriously cute.
Why you’ll love this recipe
- Uses my no fail cookie recipe – but you can also use a semi-homemade swap: refrigerated cookie dough.
- The decorating couldn’t be easier – making this the perfect cookie recipe for people who don’t want to make sugar cookie icing with all the mess.
- They are easy to make and look so cute on a platter or in clear bags for gifts. Plus, you can customize the frosting and sugar to make your own unique bunny butt cookies!
Ingredients Needed
- One batch of my cutout sugar cookie dough (or your favorite sugar cookie dough)
- Bunny cookie cutter
- Colored sugars – I use pink, purple, and yellow, or you can pick your favorites
- Pastry bag
- Small star tip
- One batch of my favorite sugar cookie frosting (or canned icing)
How to Decorate Easter Bunny Cookies
- Tint Frosting: Make vanilla buttercream frosting and tint it to match your colored sugars. So, if you are using multiple colors, divide the frosting and tint each batch. I like using gel food coloring for this.
- Sugar: Place the sugars on shallow plates, one for each color.
- Frost & Dip: Frost the bunny cookies and then dip each one frosting-side-down in the matching sugar. Lightly press the cooking into the sugar to ensure its evenly coated.
- Bunny Butts: You can leave them with just the frosting and sugar, but adding a little white bunny tail is a cute detail and easy to do. Fit a piping bag with a small star tip. Place white frosting in the bag and pipe the tail near each cookie’s bottom to create a cottontail.

FAQs
Simply use black frosting and pipe eyes and whiskers or use sprinkles for the eyes and nose, and omit the tail.
Bunny cookies last up to 4 days in an airtight container.
Store frosted cookies in an airtight container in a single layer or between sheets of wax paper.
These freeze well too – for best results freeze the unfrosted cookies and frosting separately but you can also freeze leftover cookies in a single layer and then once they’re frozen add them to a resealable bag or airtight container and stack them.
